Traditional Latin Mass, Sunday December 13, 2020

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be held on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, Sunday, December13th, 2020, 3:00 pm at the New St. Paul’s Church, 510 W. Roosevelt, Nampa, ID 83686.

For those who are not attending due to the dispensation, you can view the mass at the following link: https://nampacatholic.church/mass-livestream/

After Mass, there will NOT be hospitality in the Narthex.

Below are some notes from Fr Vogel’s letter on St Pauls website concerning their operating procedures for mass and being at the church.

***Dispensation for Mass continues for all who are over 60 or are vulnerable. Masses will still be live streamed. **Do not come to Mass if you are sick or not comfortable being there.**

All safety protocol given by the CDC and the Governor must be followed, namely:

  • Masks are highly recommended
  • 6 feet of distance must be maintained between every individual
    • A family counts as 1 individual
  • The church is marked and prepared to ensure social distancing
  • The church will be sanitized before every Mass
  • The collection basket will not be passed person to person
    • We will have a basket at the door
  • Follow the trained usher’s instructions for being seated
  • You must take the seat given you by the usher
    • You cannot pick your seat or save seats
  • There is no congregating before or after Mass in order to maintain social distancing
  • Try your best to refrain from using the church bathrooms. We will sanitize after each person. Also, to get to the bathroom the entire pew will have to move so social distancing remains.
    • Parents must accompany a child to the bathroom
  • Once the church has reached its capacity, ushers will seat the faithful in Marist Hall where the Mass will be live-streamed, and a priest or deacon will bring Holy Communion.***

***During my announcements at a previous TLM, I asked for volunteers to help clean and sanitize the church afterwards.  I wanted to thank George for staying to help with that.

The duties are simple:

  1. Welcoming visitors and ensuring they have the booklets and Mass resources
  2. Assisting with seating in the church and Marist hall, if needed.
  3. Assisting with ushering for Holy Communion.
  4. Overseeing the collection and storage of money in the safe.
  5. Sanitizing the church after Mass.

St. Joseph, pray for the increase of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Treasure Valley and the establishment of an FSSP Parish. We pray also for Father Vogel and Bishop Christensen.

Bishops Report to the CDF on the TLM: the Una Voce Federation responds

(as reported at Rorate Caeli blog here)

Want a break from the US election?

You can read a good deal about the response of the Foederatio Internationalis Una Voce (FIUV) to the survey of the world's bishops on the Traditional Mass carried out by the CDF in the newly published magazine of the FIUV: Gregorius Magnus 10.

Having recently returned from Rome, I can say from multiple sources that what the bishops have said about the EF in their dioceses is not all negative by any means, and no one seems to expect any bad outcomes from this survey. Nevertheless, the FIUV has also presented the CDF with a report, covering 364 dioceses from 52 countries, of the experiences of the traditional faithful, whether in enjoying the Traditional Mass or merely asking for it, to supplement the perspective of the world's bishops.

Gregorius Magnus also has much else of interest which I hope readers will appreciate, including extracts from traditional Catholic magazines from around the world, some published in English for the first time.

It is now available as a pdf here.

For the first time, and thanks to sponsorship by the Latin Mass Society (England and Wales), it is also available to read on ISSUU, which optimises the content for display on mobile devices. You can download the app, or look at it on the web.

Livestream Easter Sunday Mass at 8AM (Link Fixed)

In the Silence of this Unique Holy Saturday

"Indeed, there is in man a sort of nostalgia for God’s company. We have within us a profound desire and a will to be face to face with divinity. On the Christian level, contemplation is actually an intimate conversation with God in silence and solitude. It is impossible in the agitation of the world, but even more so in the distractions of interior noise. The tumults that are the most difficult to contain are still our own interior storms.

"With Christ, contemplation resembles the joy of two lovers who look silently at each other. I often think of the little peasant who used to come each day to the church in Ars.  He remained for a long time absolutely immobile in front of the tabernacle.  On day, the saintly Curé asked him, “What are you doing there, dear friend?” He replied, “I look at Him, and He looks at me.” The little peasant said nothing, because he had no need to speak in order to tell Christ that he loved Him; in return, he had no need of any sign from the Son of God, because he knew that he was truly loved. In love, words are not necessary. The more dense the life of silence, the more alone the soul is with God.  And the more virginal the soul, the more it withdraws from the agitated world.

God or Nothing, Cardinal Robert Sarah (2015)

Regarding the next scheduled TLM

JMJ

Greetings to you all!

As you all know, Bishop Christensen has suspended the celebration of public masses in the Diocese of Boise.  With that, our next scheduled TLM for April 8th, 2020, will not be a public mass.

I have spoken with Fr Vogel through email and he had the following message concerning the April 12th, 2020 TLM.

"Please note that there will be an Extraordinary Form Mass on Easter Sunday at 8:00am at St. Paul's.  This Mass will be live-streamed from St. Paul’s and available for view on our website: www.nampacatholic.church
The faithful can join the Mass live at 8:00am or watch it later at their own convenience from our website or parish app, or our parish facebook page."

I encourage you all to tune into this mass to continue our support for Fr Vogel and St Paul's.

Lastly, I have attached PDF documents with the propers for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Day.

Let's continue to remain steadfast in our prayers and unite our sufferings during this most holy season of Lent for those that are being affected by this virus.

Live-Streamed Dominican Missa Cantata in Time of Pestilence on Saturday, April 4, 2020

This post is to remind our readers that the friars of the Western Dominican Province House of Studies, St Albert the Great Priory in Oakland California, are live-streaming their Masses on Sundays and Solemnities. They may be viewed live at the Province’s Website, and remain available to watch afterwards. This week, they will also live-stream a Dominican Rite Votive Missa Cantata in Time of Pestilence on Saturday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. PDT. The celebrant and preacher for this Mass will be Fr Augustine Thompson, OP. Music will be provided by the student friars, who will also serve the Mass. This Mass will replace the usual First Saturday Missa Cantata. The Mass itself is not open to the public, as the public Masses have been suspended in the Diocese of Oakland and elsewhere in California because of the coronavirus.

Something to think about

A More Horrifying Kind of Death
St Augustine

…[C]onsider, and understand that more horrifying kind of death everyone who sins dies. But every man is afraid of the death of the flesh; few, of the death of the soul. In regard to the death of the flesh, which must certainly come sometime, all are on their guard against its approach: this is the source of all their labour. Man, destined to die, labours to avert his dying; and yet man, destined to live forever, labours not to cease from sinning. And when he labours to avoid dying, he labours to no purpose, for its only result will be to put off death for a while, not to escape it; but if he refrain from sinning, his toil will cease, and he shall live forever. Oh that we could arouse men, and be ourselves aroused along with them, to be as great lovers of the life that abides, as men are of that which passes away! Tractate 49 on the Gospel of John

It does not favor any one nation, but presents itself with equal impartiality to all and is equally acceptable to all.’” (From an article in Latin Mass Magazine by D.Q. McInerny with quote from Apostolic Constitution Veterum Sapientia by Pope John XXIII.)
