Cardinal Sarah’s Cri de Coeur: The Catholic Church Has Lost Its Sense of the Sacred
[The following is from an interview at National Catholic Register]
Cardinal Sarah’s Cri de Coeur: The Catholic Church Has Lost Its Sense of the Sacred Edward Pentin interview with Robert Card. Sarah at National Catholic Register
Pentin: Why do you think more and more young people are attracted to traditional liturgy / the extraordinary form?
I do not think so. I see it; I am a witness to it. And young people have entrusted me with their absolute preference for the extraordinary form, more educative and more insistent on the primacy and centrality of God, silence and on the meaning of the sacred and divine transcendence. But, above all, how can we understand, how can we not be surprised and deeply shocked that what was the rule yesterday is prohibited today? Is it not true that prohibiting or suspecting the extraordinary form can only be inspired by the demon who desires our suffocation and spiritual death?

5th TLM on the 5th Sunday after Pentecost
The Traditional Latin Mass for the 5th Sunday after Pentecost was the 5th monthly TLM offered at St Paul Catholic Church in Nampa. Tom Lester, Chair of the Treasure Valley Latin Mass Society, gave a short presentation before Mass to let folks who have only experienced the ordinary form of the Mass (the Mass of Paul VI instituted after Vatican II) know that there is a different approach to the extraordinary form of the Mass, and that, contrary to the ordinary form, following every word and gesture is not only not expected, but it's ok to be rather bewildered and feel lost. So do not be afraid to let it go, the sense of wanting to know what is happening at every moment, and to enter into the liturgical action of the priest. It takes time to get used to the flow of the Mass, and to let go of certain expectations shaped by our prior experience, and discover the mystery of the ancient form and let it's expectations shape us. It takes time, but the Mass of the Saints has a power all its own, shaped as it was by the long experience of the Church and the faithful.
This was the first time a bit of social time was offered with refreshments after Mass. Quite a few folks enjoyed visiting and a snack!
The expectation is that after next month's TLM on Sunday, August 11, the new parish hall will be open and we will be able to visit there.
Many thanks to Fr Vogel for his generous service, and to all the folks who have put so much into supporting the TLM; the altar servers, the schola, the ushers, and all the work that goes on behind the scenes that helps make the Mass flow smoothly and beautifully. Special thanksgiving also to his Excellency, Bishop Peter Christensen, for instituting the monthly TLM as a permanent ministry under Fr Vogel at St Paul. Please pray for our bishop and Fr Vogel, that this may grow and prosper.

Traditional Latin Mass This Sunday, June 9th
Traditional Latin Mass This Sunday
Just a reminder that this Sunday, June 9th at
St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nampa, Fr. Vogel will say the Traditional Latin
Mass (Missa Cantata, a sung Mass) at 2:30 pm. This Sunday is Pentecost! We hope
to see you there and don’t forget to invite friends and relatives you think
might be interested in experiencing the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Mass (
aka: TLM).
Also, news from Angie Hancock from St.
Paul’s:
Dear friends in Christ,
Due to circumstances outside of our control, we
will not be able to use Marist Hall this weekend for our potluck as it is being
shut down for all events at St. Paul’s. However, we do still want to have a
small social after the Latin Mass.
Instead of a full meal, please bring desserts or finger foods to
share. I will be in the kitchen in the main church that is located right near
the bathrooms and cry room until 2:20pm. Please do be aware that the next Mass
will be starting at 5pm, so we will only have a short time inside the narthex
to socialize.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
In Christ through Mary,
Angie Hancock
Note: We will still have the door prize for the Saint Edmund Campion Missal & Hymnal after Mass in the Narthex. You can sign up for the door prize in the Narthex before you enter the Church for Mass. (Must be present to win.)

Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) at St. Paul’s, Nampa
Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) at St. Paul’s, Nampa
We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who attended the first Diocesan authorized TLM in the Treasure Valley on March 10th at the new St. Paul’s Parish in Nampa. There were 402 persons in attendance from all over the Treasure Valley. Your attendance indicated the spiritual need that many of the laity in our region have for the Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite).
Thank you also to the members of the Schola. The music they provided was truly transcendent, as is befitting the Sacred Liturgy. We now have 28 responses for Altar Server training for the TLM. Thank you to all who responded.
Our appreciation goes out, also, to the many people behind the scenes whose prayers, volunteer time, and financial resources supported this effort to bring the TLM to our area. Most of all, we are grateful to Bishop Christensen for establishing the monthly TLM at St. Paul’s Church in Nampa, which will be celebrated on the second Sunday of every month, at 2:30 pm.
The next TLM is scheduled for Palm Sunday, April 14th, at 2:30 pm at the the new St. Paul’s Church in Nampa (510 W. Roosevelt).
If you know of friends/family who would like to attend, please extend an invitation to them. Additionally, if you would like to be added to our database to document the interest level for the TLM in the Treasure Valley and to receive informational emails, please go to: unavoceidaho.blogspot.com Click on the Sign Up tab, then click on the form, print and mail the
completed form to the address indicated.

Una Voce Announces: A Monthly Traditional Latin Mass
The board of the Treasure Valley Latin
Mass Society, St. Joseph Chapter of Una Voce America, is pleased to announce
that Bishop Peter Christensen has responded to our request for a Traditional
Latin Mass in the Treasure Valley. He has assigned Fr. Caleb Vogel, pastor of
St. Paul Catholic Church in Nampa, to the ministry of providing a monthly Sunday
Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the old St. Paul Church in Nampa. There is
much preparation to be done, and Fr. Vogel hopes to begin offering the Mass in
Lent — sometime in March.
Although the exact time for the monthly
Mass has not been set, and further details await the promulgation of the
official assignment letter by the Bishop, we are very pleased to bring you this
announcement and are grateful to Bishop Christensen for his positive response
to our request, and also very grateful to Fr. Vogel for his generous response,
as well as St Joseph, patron of this Una Voce Chapter.
Please be aware that this ministry is
limited to the monthly offering of a Traditional Latin Mass. It does not include those items of a full
parish life, such as the traditional sacraments for confession, baptism,
nuptials, requiem Masses and the like. Also
be aware that this ministry has been assigned to Fr. Vogel alone, so he will be
performing this ministry in addition to pastoring a large parish and serving as
director of vocations. Please keep him and Bishop Christensen in your prayers.
Fr. Vogel has indicated that he would
like help from the Treasure Valley Latin Mass Society with preparing the old St.
Paul Church for this particular ministry, as well as obtaining necessary
supplies. Additional notices will be
sent out as particular needs for time/talents/treasure are identified in the
next few weeks. In the meantime, if you
wish to make a tax-deductible donation, it would be both helpful and deeply
appreciated. You may send it to:
Treasure Valley Latin Mass Society, Inc.
C/o Mrs. Theresa Lester, O.P.

Please join the board of the Treasure
Valley Latin Mass Society in offering prayers and thanksgiving for this new
step towards regularizing the Extraordinary Form of the Mass in the Treasure
Valley, with special intercession for Bishop Christensen and Fr. Vogel.
